M56 gears in M90

Hello! Sorry for posting in English, but there is something I can't find in any English forum anywhere, no one seems to know for sure.

Apparently M56 gears can be put in an M90. Plenty say it may be possible, but no one is sure... Is this possible? It seems more likely you guys have tried this! Looking to fix my terrible D24 M90 ratios, and the M56 ones are excellent for it.

If you're after better ratios a change of diff ratio would give the same result and is probably an easier way to go.

Unfortunately, a diff change gets me part way there, but not quite - 3.54 is what I have, 3.31 is the lowest I could go. Only a 7~% difference unfortunately!

There are 3.15 gears available. Or do you have a specific reason for not being able to go below 3.31?

I do not - I had never ever heard or read of a 3.15 ratio diff, which Volvo/engine did that come in?

They are quite hard to find. Early 240 4-speed manual with b21 / b23 can have that ratio. But they can be bought new for around 300 euro.
