Hi,

Excuse me for not speaking Swedish, I can read a little but typing is a no go for me.. tongue,

Anyway, I'm thinking of putting a Volvo 850 engine into a Volvo 242 or 245. I've seen it a lot over here and it seems pretty easy.
But I'm wondering if the oil pan needs to be altered to clear the crossmember, does anyone have some photos of the underside where that's visible ?

And what transmissions are generally used ? M92 from the 960's ?

Thanks! big_smile

Hi! Welcome to gorg!

Well, i dont know about the oil pan. But the gearbox the most of the builders use is the M90. Or a BMW gearbox(getrag box?)

Allt för den där jävla hatten!

I have never heard of a "M92". The M90 from the inline six in the late 960 (s90 / v90) with the "white" engine is the gearbox which fits the 850 engine directly without modification.

Thanks, I hadn't seen that blue 245 yet, that's really what I'm thinking of.

But I was more curious to see some pics from the underside, although seeing this much 200 series with an 850 engines I assume it doesn't take too much altering of the oil pan right ?

You need,
From Volvo 960: Engine motuns, a shortened oil pan, gearbox (M90) and the water pipe which needs to be modified with the 850 water pipe.
And another problem is the distributor which ether needs to be modified to clear the firewall, or you can place it on the front of the engine.

And also there are different intake manifolds, I dont know what models had the most commonly used.

Here is a picture with on the manifold and the distributor on the front:

The distribution on the front looks good, a lot easier to replace if neccesary big_smile
I didnt know about the oil pan, thats some helpfull information.

I'm thinking of building my own intake manifold by then cause I'm not going to use petrol anyway, but LPG. I've seen some good home made examples over here.
This one looks like an S60 intake I believe.

Btw i've been busy trying to put a Rover V8 in my 142 but I didnt feel like relocating the firewall because it didnt clear the steering gear housing..

The intake manifold on Volvo_Mannens picture is the newer intake manifold that was used on newer turbomodels, around -99 and forward.

There are a couple of projects here with 240 with 850 engines, I'll look for them when I have more time. smile
